Police operatives in Bauchi State have arrested a 30-year-old woman, Maryam Ibrahim, along with four men for their alleged involvement in stealing and selling tricycles. The stolen tricycles, commonly known as Keke Napep, were reportedly transported from Kano State and sold in Bauchi.
According to a statement by SP Ahmed Wakil, spokesperson for the Bauchi Police Command, Maryam Ibrahim played a central role in the operation, having sold around seven stolen tricycles within the state. Preliminary investigations revealed that she worked with four accomplices: Adamu Sale (30), Umar Ibrahim (31), Nasiru Usman (29), and Nasiru Musa Umar (27), all hailing from various parts of Bauchi.
The arrests were made following a coordinated effort by the State Intelligence Department, which acted on credible intelligence. During the operation, seven stolen tricycles were recovered as exhibits.
SP Wakil noted that receiving stolen property is a criminal offence under Section 427 of the Criminal Code Act, which carries a penalty of up to 14 years in prison. The suspects are currently in police custody and will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
