Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has called for a joint military approach to effectively tackle the rising threats of terrorism and banditry in Nigeria’s north-west region.
He made this appeal on Thursday while receiving the Minister of Defence, Mohammed Abubakar.
During the meeting, Governor Sani emphasized the need for northern states to collaborate in addressing the security challenges plaguing the region. He praised the federal government’s creation of a joint military command as a significant step toward resolving the ongoing insecurity.
“It is a clear demonstration of commitment to tackling insecurity,” Sani said, expressing confidence in the government’s efforts.
The governor also stressed the importance of addressing the root causes of insecurity through investments in critical sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, education, healthcare, and citizen engagement. He proposed a people-driven “Marshall Plan” for regional development and advocated for transparent leadership within the North West Development Commission.
Additionally, Sani urged the defence minister to consider placing Operation Safe Haven under 1 Division, Kaduna, to improve security coordination in the area.
In response, Defence Minister Abubakar outlined his visit’s purpose: to finalize plans for the launch of Operation Fansan Yamma, a military operation designed to tackle security challenges in the region. He commended the state’s support for security agencies and its infrastructure efforts, particularly the construction of roads to enhance access to remote areas.
The minister assured the state of continued federal support and expressed his gratitude to troops for their service during his visit to 1 Division Nigerian Army, Air Training Command, and frontline local governments.
