The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two 15-year-old students, Hamza Sadiq and Adamu Ahmadu, for allegedly stealing mobile phones from a shop at Wunti Market in Bauchi City Centre.
The teenagers, both students of Bakari-Dukku Comprehensive Secondary School, were linked to the theft of a large number of electronic items.
According to a complaint filed by a shop owner at Wunti Market, approximately 100 mobile phones, 75 MP4 players, 30 phone batteries, 50 external memory cards, and a Bluetooth headset went missing from his store.
Confirming the arrests on Friday, the spokesperson for the Bauchi State Police Command, SP Ahmed Wakil, said that 21 mobile phones, 5 MP4 players, a phone charger, and a metal key used in the crime were recovered from the suspects. He revealed that the minors had obtained the key to the shop and strategically looted the store while the owner was away.
The suspects confessed to the crime and admitted to selling the stolen phones at reduced prices, using the proceeds to purchase clothes, food, and a smartphone.
Wakil also noted that after further investigation and recovery of the remaining stolen items, the suspects would be taken to a remand home for rehabilitation.
