The Nigeria Police Force has issued a stern warning to the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), commonly known as the Shi’ite group, against conducting any procession on October 1. Authorities stated that no such activity will be permitted from a proscribed group, particularly during the nation’s Independence Day celebration.Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 7, Bennett Igweh, disclosed that the police had gathered intelligence suggesting that the group was planning a protest aimed at causing disruption in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).AIG Igweh also noted that the police had not received any formal notification from any group planning a protest and warned against any actions that could lead to a breakdown of law and order in Abuja.In preparation for the October 1 Independence Day festivities, the FCT Police Command has deployed personnel and equipment across the capital to ensure the celebration proceeds smoothly.FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, stated, “This proactive deployment aims to ensure that residents of the FCT enjoy a hitch-free Independence Day celebration. The deployment will include Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) personnel, anti-riot equipment, and visibility policing, among others.”She further added that traffic diversions would be implemented in areas expected to witness large gatherings, such as the Central Area and Eagle Square.Residents of the FCT were also encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the following emergency numbers: 08032003913, 08028940883, 08061581938, 07057337653, PCB: 09022222352, CRU: 08107314192.
