The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested 14 suspected herders in Adamawa State for violating the Executive Order that bans transhumance movement across the state.
This action follows a targeted operation led by the Hong Divisional Office of NSCDC, demonstrating the Corps’ ongoing commitment to enforcing the ban and ensuring the safety and security of local communities. The arrest comes as part of a broader effort to prevent the frequent farmer-herder conflicts that arise from unauthorized cattle movements. Commandant Idris Bande of the NSCDC Adamawa State Command directed immediate enforcement of the ban across all 21 local government areas, underscoring the importance of upholding the law to maintain peace in the region.According to the NSCDC, preliminary investigations revealed that some of the suspects arrested are not indigenous to Adamawa State. This highlights the need for stringent enforcement to prevent external influences that may disturb the state’s stability.Commandant Bande expressed the NSCDC’s firm resolve to uphold the Executive Order, stating, “We are determined to continue working tirelessly to ensure full compliance with the law.” He also called on residents and all relevant stakeholders to cooperate with the Corps to promote peace and security throughout Adamawa. As the investigation continues, the NSCDC confirmed that the suspects will be prosecuted in a court of competent jurisdiction once the probe is concluded. The Corps remains dedicated to preventing disruptions and maintaining law and order in the state.
