On Tuesday, September 10, 2024, the Katsina State Community Watch Corps intercepted a commercial vehicle transporting hidden ammunition in Batsari Local Government Area. The discovery was made during a routine security check, according to the state’s Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasir Mu’azu.
Speaking to journalists in Katsina, Dr. Mu’azu explained that the vehicle, with plate number BTR 45 XA, was carrying 17 passengers — 13 females and four males, including the driver. Acting on credible intelligence, the vigilant corps members uncovered a cache of 610 rounds of ammunition, including both AK-47 and General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) rounds, along with two magazines, hidden under a seat.
The suspect, a man dressed in white voile, exhibited suspicious behaviour throughout the journey. He insisted on sitting at the rear of the vehicle and appeared visibly anxious. When the vehicle was stopped for inspection, the suspect managed to escape, abandoning the ammunition.
Dr. Mu’azu assured the public that the Katsina State Government, under the leadership of Governor Mallam Dikko Radda, remains committed to upholding peace and security. He emphasized that the state will continue to enhance its security apparatus to combat criminal activities across the region.
