The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has denied issuing a sit-at-home directive for October 21 and 22 in any part of Igbo land.
The pro-Biafra group clarified that it always makes public announcements for any sit-at-home exercise and urged the public to disregard what it called an “obnoxious order” from criminals allegedly trying to discredit IPOB.
In a statement by the group’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful, IPOB emphasized that it does not enforce sit-at-home orders without a valid reason.
“IPOB did not order a two-day sit-at-home, and we don’t want to create panic over such inconsequential directives from infiltrators,” Emma Powerful stated. “We chose not to issue a press statement on an inconsequential order from these infiltrators.”
He further noted that IPOB is not in the habit of threatening the Igbo people, stating, “Whenever we declare a sit-at-home, we make it public. Our people should ignore such obnoxious orders from criminals working for the government to tarnish the peaceful image of the IPOB movement.”
Despite IPOB’s denial, commercial activities in Aba, Abia State, were disrupted following a sit-at-home reportedly declared by suspected pro-Biafra organizations. Schools, banks, markets, and other businesses remained closed, and key roads, including Azikiwe, Faulks, Ngwa, Aba-Owerri, Obohia, and others, were deserted.
Security was heightened in the city, with combined teams of soldiers and police officers patrolling major areas to maintain order.
