Armed Men Attack TCN Substation Under Construction in Kogi

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has reported that unidentified armed men attacked the site of its ongoing 330/132/33kV transmission substation project in Obajana, Kogi State.

The incident occurred late on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, around 11:55 p.m.

According to the General Manager of Public Affairs for TCN, Ndidi Mbah, the assailants stormed the construction site, firing indiscriminately and forcing the security personnel on duty to flee. During the attack, a 150MVA 330/132/33kV power transformer, which had already been installed on its plinth, was damaged, with its radiator bursting as a result of the gunfire.

Mbah stated that TCN is currently assessing the extent of the damage in collaboration with the contractor overseeing the project. She noted that this attack is part of a worrying trend of vandalism against the country’s power transmission infrastructure.

The Obajana Transmission Substation, once completed, is expected to significantly improve electricity supply in Kogi State and its neighboring areas.

The facility is designed to have a capacity of 1X150MVA at 330/132/33kV, making it a critical component of efforts to boost power distribution in the region.
