Security Heads Visit Njaba, Okwelle Following Gunmen Attacks, Reassure Residents

In the wake of a recent failed attack by unknown gunmen on Njaba Police Divisional Headquarters, the heads of various security agencies in Imo State embarked on a confidence-building mission to the Njaba Divisional Headquarters and Okwelle community.

This visit was aimed at reassuring residents and strengthening collaboration in the fight against violence.

According to a press statement from the Public Relations Officer of the Imo State Police Command, ASP Henry Okoye, the visit followed the repelled attack on the Njaba Police Division, along with an assault on northern scrap dealers in Okwelle by suspected members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Eastern Security Network (ESN).

The Commissioner of Police in Imo State, CP Aboki Danjuma, led the delegation, which included Brigadier General UA Lawal of the 34 Artillery Brigade Obinze, Commander Oguta Naval Base, Commodore MB Salisu, Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Security Affairs, Rtd Gen. Joseph Ogbonna, Commissioner for Homeland Security, Hon. Modestus Osakwe, and other high-ranking security officials.

During their visit, the security chiefs commended the bravery of the officers stationed at Njaba for successfully repelling the attack. CP Aboki Danjuma urged the officers to remain vigilant and committed to protecting the division from further threats. “Your proactive approach in handling this situation reflects the unwavering dedication of our security agencies to safeguard both the personnel and the community,” ASP Okoye quoted.

In Okwelle, the delegation expressed condolences to the families affected by the attacks and visited victims receiving treatment at the hospital, offering support and assuring them that efforts are underway to bring the perpetrators to justice.

In a similar vein, the security chiefs held a meeting with leaders of the Northern communities at Ama Hausa in the state. This gathering was a reaffirmation of the agencies’ commitment to the safety of all residents, regardless of background.

“The collaborative efforts of these security chiefs highlight a proactive response to the security challenges facing the state,” ASP Okoye added, emphasizing that continued engagement with local communities will foster trust and enhance safety. “Their continuous engagement with the community will foster trust and collaboration, ultimately enhancing the safety and security of the state.”
