The Nigeria Police Force has reaffirmed its commitment to combating kidnapping, armed robbery, and other forms of criminality across the country.
The force made this reaffirmation in a press release dated December 29,2024 and signed by the force Public Relations officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
“This renewed effort has yielded significant results, with operatives rescuing 13 kidnapped victims, arresting five suspected armed robbers, and recovering firearms and ammunition in the past week,” the statement read.
According to the statement, On December 27, 2024, officers from the Kwara State Command stormed a kidnappers’ hideout in the Idofin-Igbana area following a distress call. The operatives, facing stiff resistance from the criminals, successfully overpowered them, forcing the kidnappers to flee with injuries. This operation led to the rescue of all 13 kidnapped individuals.
The following day, December 28, 2024, police operatives from the Lagos State Command apprehended two suspects at Pinnacle Depot, Lekki, following reports of a public disturbance. The suspects, identified as Lawan Mustapha (38) and Aina Daniel (38), were found in possession of one double-barrel rifle, 90 live cartridges, and five model rifles during a thorough search.
In a separate operation on the same day, officers from the Lagos State Command arrested three suspected armed robbers in GRA Ikeja. The suspects were found with a locally made pistol, four live cartridges, and two cutlasses. All suspects are currently in custody and will face prosecution upon the conclusion of investigations.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun reiterated the Force’s determination to ensure the safety and security of all Nigerians. “The Nigeria Police Force remains resolute in its mission to create a safer environment for all citizens. We will continue leveraging all available resources to eradicate these heinous crimes from our society,” he stated.
