The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended three men suspected of robbing a commercial motorcyclist in the Owode Egba area.
The suspects, identified as Adegboyega Sarafa (42), Soliu Bankole (38), and Sogo Idris (46), also known as Agbara, were captured following a tip-off from one of their victims.
According to the Command spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, the suspects attacked 60-year-old Rotimi Bajela on the Ajura/Olojo/Shiun road. The assailants reportedly ambushed Bajela, wielding a gun and a machete, and robbed him of his money, phone, and Bajaj motorcycle. During the assault, they fired at Bajela, and when the shot failed to harm him, they resorted to slashing him with the machete on his head and neck.
Odutola explained that the suspects were arrested on October 11, 2024, after a concerned resident provided valuable information about the attack. She added, “The suspects emerged from the bushes as Bajela was riding from Ajura Township towards Ijemon Kukoyi Village. They assaulted him and stole his belongings, including his Bajaj motorcycle, which has yet to be identified by its registration number.”
Recovered items from the suspects include a locally-made gun and the machete used in the attack. Odutola noted that the suspects are currently under interrogation, and the police have inspected the crime scene, located in the Olojo Village bush area, capturing evidence through photographs.
In a warning to the public, Odutola urged commercial motorcycle riders and owners to remain vigilant and take precautions to avoid becoming victims of such attacks. Further updates on the case will be provided as investigations continue.
