Police Deny Bomb Explosion in Plateau, Confirm Public Safety

The Plateau State Police Command has debunked reports of a bomb explosion at the Terminus Market in Jos North Local Government Area, following an incident that initially sparked fear among residents.

In an official statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Alfred Alabo, explained that a report was received regarding a shallow hole near Ahmadu Bello Way, beside the Old JUTH fence, which was suspected to contain an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). This discovery caused widespread panic in the state capital.

Acting swiftly, Plateau State Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Adesina, ordered the Area Commander Metro, along with the Officer in Charge of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit, to dispatch a team of bomb technicians to the scene. The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) from “C” Division was also present during the operation.

“Upon reaching the scene, the area was immediately cordoned off, and the EOD team began a thorough examination of the suspected site,” DSP Alabo said. “After a careful investigation, it was confirmed that the hole was free of any explosive devices, and no threat to public safety was detected.”

In an on-the-spot assessment, CP Adesina and other senior police officers visited the scene to ensure the public’s safety. He praised the community for their vigilance and cooperation throughout the incident, urging residents to remain calm and continue their daily activities without fear.

“The area is safe, and there is no danger to lives or property,” CP Adesina assured. He also emphasized the importance of continued public cooperation in maintaining security, encouraging residents to report any suspicious activities through the Police Control Room emergency numbers: 07059473022, 08038907662, 08075391844, and 0905387229.
