Police Arrest Notorious Armed Robbery, Rape Suspect in Ogun

The Ogun State Police Command announced on Monday the arrest of Shedrack Olawale Olayemi, a wanted suspect linked to armed robbery and alleged rape cases involving female students at Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun.

The arrest was made by the Igbeba Division, Ijebu-Ode, following an intelligence report.

According to the police spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, the 33-year-old suspect was apprehended after being spotted near the university, where he had been attempting to hide his identity. “Following a tip-off, that one Olayemi Olawale Shedrack, aged 33, was sighted in Ijagun, trying to conceal himself among other citizens, his identity was immediately confirmed by intelligence, and the police were contacted. In swift action, he was apprehended,” Odutola said.

Olayemi has been on the police wanted list since July for an incident in which he allegedly participated in an armed robbery and rape at a female hostel in the university. He and his accomplices were reported to have stolen valuables, including laptops, iPhones, and cash, before assaulting a female student.

The police have launched a preliminary investigation, and Olayemi is held at the Igbeba police station for questioning. He will soon be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.

In response, Commissioner of Police CP Alamutu Abiodun Mustapha has instructed officers to pursue Olayemi’s accomplices and urged the Ijagun community to provide information that could help locate other members of the criminal gang.
