In a tragic turn of events, at least nine people have been reportedly killed by gunmen in the Congo community of Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State.
Another individual sustained severe injuries and is currently in critical condition at an undisclosed medical facility.
According to sources from the community, who requested anonymity, the attack occurred around 8 p.m. on Tuesday, shortly after the local market had closed for the day. “The unfortunate incident took place when most traders and customers had already left the premises, leaving only a few people behind,” one source revealed.
This latest incident has heightened security concerns in the area, as Bokkos LGA has experienced a series of violent attacks by bandits in recent months, leading to increased tension among the residents.
Efforts to obtain a comment from DSP Alfred Alabo, the spokesperson for the Plateau State Police Command, were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
The community remains on edge as authorities continue their investigations into the attack.
