The Katsina State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended a suspected cocaine trafficker attempting to cross into Niger Republic.
The arrest was announced by the newly appointed State Commander of the NDLEA, Mr. Mohammed Aminu-Abubakar, during his initial press briefing with journalists in Katsina.
Aminu-Abubakar disclosed that the suspect was intercepted along the Kano-Kankia road on October 2, carrying approximately 0.642 kilograms of a substance believed to be cocaine. The suspect is currently in custody, and Aminu-Abubakar confirmed that legal proceedings will follow upon completion of the investigation.
The commander, who assumed his post last Friday, underscored his commitment to eradicating drug trafficking in Katsina State, stating that he would employ all lawful means to combat drug dealers and traffickers. He also highlighted the availability of rehabilitation services for individuals battling drug addiction, urging residents to take advantage of these facilities. “Substance abuse does not pay,” he remarked.
In a bid to prevent substance abuse, Aminu-Abubakar encouraged Katsina residents to utilize drug test kits, which he described as an effective tool for curbing drug demand and misuse. He further pledged to work closely with security agencies, NDLEA operatives, and community stakeholders to reduce the prevalence of drug abuse in Katsina.
Aminu-Abubakar, who recently transferred from the NDLEA Strategic Command at Tin-Can Island Port in Lagos, succeeds Mr. Hassan Sani, now reassigned to the NDLEA national headquarters.
