The Katsina Command of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced the arrest of a suspected cocaine trafficker who was allegedly en route to Niger Republic.
The State Commander, Mr. Mohammed Aminu-Abubakar, made the disclosure during an introductory session with journalists in Katsina on Tuesday.
According to Commander Aminu-Abubakar, operatives intercepted approximately 0.642 kilograms of a substance suspected to be cocaine from the suspect along the Kano-Kankia road on October 2. He emphasized that the case remains under investigation, and the suspect will face prosecution following the inquiry’s conclusion.
Aminu-Abubakar, who assumed his new role last Friday, underscored his commitment to utilizing all legal measures to combat drug trafficking and dealing within the state. He further stated that facilities are available for the rehabilitation of drug users in Katsina, urging residents to avoid drug abuse as it leads to negative consequences.
The commander also advocated for the use of drug test kits among residents as a preventive measure against substance abuse. He pledged to collaborate closely with other security agencies, operatives, and stakeholders to curb the drug abuse crisis in the region.
Mr. Aminu-Abubakar’s appointment follows his transfer from the NDLEA Strategic Command at Tin-Can Island Port in Lagos. He succeeds Mr. Hassan Sani, who has been reassigned to the national headquarters.
