Military Action Alone Cannot Overcome Nigeria’s Security Challenges

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, has emphasized that military action alone cannot overcome Nigeria’s security challenges and urged for broader cooperation and support from Nigerians. According to Lagbaja, solving the country’s security problems requires more than just military interventions.

Speaking during the commissioning of Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) projects in Okuku, Odo-Otin Local Government Area of Osun State, Lagbaja highlighted the importance of synergy among stakeholders in achieving national security. This statement comes as part of the Army’s efforts to bridge the gap between the military and civilians.

In a statement by the Director of Army Public Relations, Maj. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, it was noted that the projects were executed in honour of Maj. Gen. Folusho Oyinlola, as part of the COAS Special Civil Military Cooperation Intervention Projects. These projects are aimed at giving back to communities from which senior officers have emerged, as seen in the case of Maj. Gen. Oyinlola.

The COAS commended Maj. Gen. Oyinlola for identifying and addressing the needs of the Okuku community through the projects. Lagbaja reiterated that the Nigerian Army is people-centric and committed to peace, security, and unity across the nation.

During a visit to the Palace of the Olokuku of Okuku, Oba Abioye Oyebode Oluronke II, Lagbaja emphasized that the Army’s efforts, including these CIMIC projects, were designed to foster cooperation between the military and civilians. These efforts are crucial in combatting security threats effectively.

The Olokuku of Okuku expressed gratitude for the honor bestowed on their community, while Maj. Gen. Funsho Oyinlola and the Chief of Civil Military Relations, Maj. Gen. Nosakhare Ugbo, also praised Lagbaja for continuing the initiative of giving back to society.
