Man on the Run After Stabbing Cousin to Death in Lagos

In a tragic incident on Monday, a man identified as Ganiyu Ibrahim reportedly stabbed his cousin, Afeez Akeem, to death following an argument that escalated into a violent confrontation in Lagos.

According to a statement by Benjamin Hundeyin, the Public Relations Officer for the Lagos State Police Command, the altercation took place around 7 a.m. in the presence of family members.

Hundeyin disclosed that a woman reported the incident to the police, stating that her son, Ganiyu, and her nephew, Afeez, had been involved in a heated dispute which tragically turned physical.

The confrontation reportedly intensified when Ganiyu allegedly broke a bottle and stabbed Afeez in the chest. “The victim was rushed to a hospital, where he was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty,” Hundeyin said. He added that police detectives had been mobilized to the scene, where photographs were taken as part of the investigation.

In accordance with Islamic customs, the family opted to forgo an autopsy and proceed with Afeez’s burial. Meanwhile, Hundeyin confirmed that Ganiyu is currently at large, and efforts are underway to locate and apprehend him. “The suspect is at large. Investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to apprehend the fleeing suspect,” he stated.

This incident follows another recent case of domestic violence in Lagos. Earlier in October, 25-year-old Chibunma Chimelie was detained after allegedly stabbing his 68-year-old father to death in the Isolo area. The case was reported to the Aswani Police Divisional Station by the suspect’s brother, according to Hundeyin.

The Lagos State Police Command called on the public to provide any information that could lead to Ganiyu’s arrest as the investigation continues.
