The protesters arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly breaching public peace at the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park on October 2, 2024 have been granted bail.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olanrewaju Ishola gave the directive on Friday after meeting with the Convener of ‘Take It Back Movement,’ Omoyele Sowore.
Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement on Friday, said the gesture was in the spirit of camaraderie and bolstering trust between the Police and civil society organisations.
Police said it arrested the protesters for allegedly causing a breach of public peace under the guise of protesting.
“The CP gave the directive today during the visit of Comrade Omoyele Sowore to his office at the Command Headquarters, Ikeja. The arrested persons have since been handed over to Comrade Sowore,” SP Hundeyin said in the statement.
Hundeyin conveyed the assurance of CP Ishola to Lagosians, that the Command under his watch would continue to prioritise their safety and security at all times.
