Kogi Police Ban Use of Vehicles with Covered Plates

The Kogi State Police Command has issued a ban on the use of vehicles with covered number plates, as well as unregistered vehicles and motorcycles across the state.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP William Ovye Aya, conveyed that the Commissioner of Police, Bethrand Onuoha, implemented the ban following intelligence reports indicating that criminals use covered plate numbers to carry out illegal activities.

“The practice has become a major challenge for law enforcement in their efforts to combat crime in the state,” the statement emphasized.

The Commissioner urged vehicle owners with covered plates to uncover them, and those without registration to complete the process or face having their vehicles impounded.

“Driving a vehicle with covered plates or without proper registration is illegal. The Police will soon begin a clampdown on violators, impounding vehicles, and prosecuting offenders,” the statement continued.

Members of the public were also advised to ensure their vehicles are properly registered, uncover any concealed plates, and replace damaged or defaced number plates to avoid penalties.
