The Imo State Police Command has commenced an orderly room trial for four officers accused of extortion, following the release of a viral video by social media content creator, Young C Entertainment.
The officers in question—Inspector Ibrahim Nainna, Unaka Maxvirgin, Inspector Miller Ibinitta, and Sergeant Antony Alozie—are currently detained as the investigation unfolds.
In a statement released on Thursday, Henry Okoye, spokesperson for the Imo Police Command, confirmed that the trial aims to verify the allegations made by Young C Entertainment. He added that if the accusations are substantiated, the implicated officers will face prosecution.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Imo State, CP Aboki Danjuma, has begun physical assessments of detainees held in police cells across the state. According to Okoye, “The Commissioner of Police in Imo State, CP Aboki Danjuma, and his management team are actively conducting inspections across various police divisions and tactical teams. This initiative aims to assess the conditions of suspects in detention and ensure that no individual is held beyond the legal limits. This move reflects a commitment to upholding the rights of detainees and improving overall police accountability.”
The incident gained public attention after Young C Entertainment posted a video on social media, alleging that the officers from the anti-narcotics unit of the state criminal investigation department engaged in maltreatment, extortion, and illegal detention. He explained that during transit to a film shoot, the officers stopped their vehicle and detained them, despite their explanations that the fake currency they carried was a prop for the production. Young C Entertainment claimed they were held in cell 12 with other suspects, some of whom allegedly threatened their lives.
The content creator further alleged that numerous detainees were being denied access to basic needs such as food, medical treatment, and communication with family members, leaving them languishing in cell 12.
