Gunmen Kill Two in Abeokuta, Two Others Injured

Gunmen reportedly killed two people and injured two others in the early hours of Monday during a violent attack in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement by its Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola. According to the police, the attack occurred at around 12:30 a.m. in the parking lot of Diamond Dumplings, located in the Government Reserved Area (GRA) of Abeokuta.

Odutola explained that three armed men in an unregistered black Toyota Hilux confronted the occupants of a black Mercedes Benz GLE 350 with a DLA license plate, demanding the car keys.

“The assailants opened fire, hitting one Ola (surname unknown) and one Shobanke Oluwatimileyin, along with two others,” the police spokesperson said.

She added that the Divisional Police Officer from Ibara division responded swiftly to distress calls, securing the area and ensuring the victims were transported to the hospital.

“Upon their arrival at the hospital, the attending doctor confirmed two fatalities, while the other two individuals are receiving medical treatment at the Federal Medical Centre, Idi Aba, Abeokuta,” she added.

Odutola also revealed that a preliminary investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths and assess any potential links to cult activities.

“The public will be informed about the progress of the investigation in the coming days, as efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects,” the statement concluded.

The incident has sparked concern among residents about rising insecurity, with authorities urging vigilance and cooperation with ongoing investigations.
