Gunmen have killed four security operatives in a series of attacks in Anambra State, with several others abducted and others injured.
The violent incidents occurred between 8:00 AM and 8:45 AM on Monday morning.
The first attack took place in Abatete, Idemili North Local Government Area, where three vigilante operatives, who were attached to the president-general of the community, High Chief Ezebinobi Ezigbo, were gunned down.
The second attack occurred at the Ukpo roundabout in neighboring Dunukofia Local Government Area around 8:45 AM, where one vigilante operative was killed and their official Sienna bus set ablaze.
Reports indicated that Chief Ezigbo was injured in the Abatete attack and rushed to the hospital, with sources expressing concern over his survival after he was reportedly shot in the head. “We hope he survives because we learned that the bullet hit him on his head,” said a local source.
The attackers are believed to have been enforcing the illegal sit-at-home order when they struck. In addition to the fatalities, about seven people were abducted, and several others were injured as chaos erupted during the attacks.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incidents but could not provide specific details about the number of victims. “Operatives from the Anambra State Police Command have been deployed to the affected areas,” he added, promising to provide further updates as the situation unfolds.
Local authorities are intensifying efforts to address the violence, and the community remains on edge following these deadly assaults.
