Gunmen Assassinate APC Chairman in Kebbi

Bako Bala, the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Suru Local Government Area of Kebbi State, has been killed by gunmen in an attack at his residence.

Zaidu Bala, special adviser on television and radio to Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris, confirmed the tragic news in a Facebook post, revealing that the attack occurred during an attempted abduction.

“To Allah we belong, and to Him we shall return. Alhaji Bako Bala, the APC chairman of Suru LGA, has passed away,” the post reads. “He was shot by kidnappers during an attempt to abduct him and his family. He later succumbed to his injuries at the Medical Centre Hospital in Birnin Kebbi. May Allah grant him mercy.”

Nafiu Abubakar, spokesperson for the Kebbi State Police Command, indicated that the authorities are investigating the incident and will provide further details as they become available.

This murder adds to the growing wave of violence and insecurity in Nigeria’s northwest region, where banditry has escalated. Despite intensified military operations, the region continues to grapple with frequent attacks. Just recently, Nigerian Air Force (NAF) personnel thwarted a terrorist attack on the Department of State Services (DSS) facilities in Niger State on September 11. In another operation, forces from Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) neutralized prominent bandit leaders in Zamfara State.
