Flood: Bridge Collapse Cuts Off Over 50 Communities in Oyo

Over 50 communities have been cut off after the bridge over the Ipin River in Eruwa, Ibarapa East Local Government Area of Oyo State collapsed due to flooding caused by heavy rainfall.

Reports indicate that torrential downpours between Friday and Saturday put immense pressure on the bridge, leading to its collapse under the force of the floodwaters.

Residents have called on the Oyo State Government for immediate intervention, urging the chairman of the local government, Hon. Kazeem Arogundade, to take swift action in rebuilding the bridge. They emphasized that the collapse has worsened living conditions, disrupting economic activities in the area.

Residents explained that the heavy rainfalls were unprecedented, causing severe damage. “While we can’t stop the rains from falling, the intensity of the downpour from Friday through Saturday was beyond what we’ve experienced,” he said.
