Five Arrested Over Killing of UNILORIN Graduate in Kwara

The Kwara State Police Command has arrested five individuals in connection with the murder of a 46-year-old University of Ilorin graduate, Lanre Adebayo.

Adebayo, who studied Political Science, was reportedly tortured to death on Monday, October 21, 2024, in the Ita-Elepa area of Ilorin West Local Government Area.

The suspects, including a community leader, two local vigilante security guards, and two others, were identified as the alleged assailants. According to reports, the tragic incident occurred following a heated argument between Adebayo and the local vigilante guards as he made his way home. The confrontation escalated into violence, leading to his death.

Confirming the arrests, the Police Public Relations Officer, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, stated that the case was reported to the command on Wednesday evening and that an investigation is underway.

“The suspects, all males, have been taken into custody for interrogation. We are investigating the incident and will update the public once the investigation is concluded,” Ejire-Adeyemi said.

The tragic event has shocked the local community, with calls for justice for the late graduate.
