Multiple explosions have rocked the Dansadau District of Maru Local Government Area (LGA) in Zamfara State, raising fears of escalating insecurity in the region.
Two explosive devices detonated on Friday along the Dansadau-Malamawa and Malele roads, both in the Dansadau District. According to reports, passengers traveling in a Canter truck to the Dansadau weekly market narrowly escaped death when their grain-loaded vehicle triggered one of the bombs.
A resident, Nuhu Babangida, confirmed the incident, noting that the two blasts occurred simultaneously but, fortunately, resulted in no casualties. “The passengers in the truck were lucky to survive as the explosion only damaged the vehicle,” Babangida said.
This marks the third time in a week that explosive devices have been planted along roads in the Dansadau area, escalating concerns about public safety.
On Wednesday, a deadly explosion killed 12 people after an explosive device blew up a bridge in Yar Tasha village. The device was triggered when a commercial vehicle carrying passengers to Dansadau town drove over it.
The incident, which occurred around 8 a.m., left the local community in shock. Residents described the scene as harrowing, with many calling for urgent security interventions.
A similar attack occurred last Sunday when an 18-seater bus ran over a planted explosive. The explosion claimed the life of the driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle.
The Zamfara State Police Command has linked the recent wave of explosions to a newly identified terror group known as Lakurawa. State Police Commissioner Muhammad Shehu Dalijan made the announcement on Wednesday, attributing the attacks to the group’s growing activities in the region.
“This group has been responsible for planting explosives along major highways, targeting innocent civilians and commuters,” Dalijan said.
The increasing frequency of such incidents has left residents in fear, with many calling for swift action from security agencies to restore peace to the region.
As the situation unfolds, the Dansadau community and its surrounding areas remain on high alert, with residents demanding urgent intervention to curb the activities of bandits and terrorists endangering lives and livelihoods.
