Delta Police Mourns After DPO, Officer Killed in Kidnappers’ Ambush

The Delta State Police Command is in mourning following the killing of its newly appointed Divisional Police Officer (DPO) at Agbarho Police Station in Ughelli North Local Government Area.

The officer, who had only been in his post for two days, was fatally attacked by kidnappers early Monday morning. Another officer, identified as CSP Paul from the Orerokpo Police Division in Okpe Local Government Area, was also severely injured in the ambush.

According to sources, the DPO received a distress call around 1:30 a.m., reporting a kidnapping incident near Agbarho Railway Station, where a vehicle was trapped. Responding swiftly, he reached out to his colleague, CSP Paul, and together they mobilized a team to the location. Unbeknownst to them, the kidnappers had set an ambush, attacking the officers upon their arrival.

The attack resulted in the immediate death of the Agbarho DPO, while CSP Paul sustained serious injuries and was rushed to an undisclosed hospital. He remains on life support as medical personnel work to save his life.

Information about the status of other officers in the team remains unclear. While some reports suggest that additional officers were injured or killed, official confirmation is still pending.

A source close to the DPO revealed that he had just started his new assignment two days prior to the incident and had not yet informed his wife, who remains unaware of the tragic event. She is reportedly still staying at a hotel as the couple had not fully settled into the area.

Efforts to reach Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, for comments on the incident have so far been unsuccessful, as calls and messages sent to his phone have gone unanswered.
