Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja has granted N10 million bail each to 10 #EndBadGovernance protesters, who were accused of attempting to overthrow President Bola Tinubu between July 1 and August 4, 2024. The ruling was delivered on Wednesday as the court approved their bail applications.
As part of the bail conditions, each protester is required to provide one surety in the same amount. The sureties must be residents and property owners in Abuja, with the court holding onto the property documents. Additionally, both the defendants and the sureties are required to deposit their international passports and three recent passport-sized photographs with the court.
The Inspector General of Police’s objections to the bail request were overruled by Justice Nwite. However, the court restricted the defendants from participating in any public rallies during their trial. Until their bail conditions are met, the protesters will remain in prison custody.
The accused, identified as Michael Tobiloba Adaramoye, Adeyemi Abiodun Abayomi, Suleiman Yakubu, Comrade Opaluwa Eleojo Simon, Angel Love Innocent, Buhari Lawal, Mosiu Sadiq, Bashir Bello Nurudeen Khamis, and Abduldalam Zubair, face charges of levying war against Nigeria during a nationwide protest.
The trial is set to commence on September 27, 2024.
