Chief of Defence Staff Musa Stresses Shared Responsibility in National Security

By Nafisat Abdulrahman

General Christopher Musa, Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, has underscored the importance of collective responsibility in ensuring the nation’s security. During a recent visit to Katsina, he highlighted that security is not solely the job of the military or security agencies but a shared responsibility among all citizens.

Speaking to a gathering in Katsina, General Musa stressed the need for cooperation between the public and security agencies to effectively tackle security challenges facing the country. He called on every citizen to be vigilant and proactive in their communities, noting that security agencies rely on valuable information from the public to counter threats and prevent criminal activities.

“Security is everybody’s responsibility,” General Musa stated. “The military and other security agencies are committed to protecting lives and property, but we cannot do it alone. We need the support and cooperation of every Nigerian to ensure a safe and secure environment.”

The Chief of Defence Staff also acknowledged the efforts of local authorities and security personnel in Katsina State for their role in combating insurgency, banditry, and other forms of criminality. He assured that the armed forces would continue to work closely with all stakeholders to enhance security and restore peace in affected regions.

General Musa’s visit to Katsina is part of his broader strategy to strengthen collaboration between the military and civilian populations. He emphasized that fostering mutual trust and understanding between security agencies and the public is critical in achieving long-term peace and stability in the country.
He also urged community leaders to engage in dialogue and mediation to resolve conflicts and discourage youths from participating in criminal activities. “Community involvement is key in resolving conflicts and maintaining peace,” General Musa added.

The Chief of Defence Staff’s remarks reflect the Nigerian military’s approach to adopting a more community-oriented strategy to address the country’s complex security challenges. His visit serves as a reminder of the collective role that every Nigerian must play in safeguarding the nation’s peace and security.
