BREAKING: Panic as Explosion Rocks Terminus Market in Jos

An explosion rocked the bustling Terminus Market in Jos, the Plateau State capital, on Tuesday morning, sending traders and residents into panic.

The blast occurred around 10:30 a.m., leaving several people injured, with unconfirmed reports of possible fatalities.

Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos and destruction following the explosion. “I was nearby when I heard a loud bang,” said an eyewitness. “I saw people running and screaming. It was terrifying.” Gyang Buba, a clothes vendor at the market, confirmed the incident and the subsequent panic that ensued.

Emergency services, including the police, fire department, and ambulance teams, swiftly arrived at the scene to provide assistance. However, the exact cause of the explosion and the full extent of the damage remain unclear.

At the time of reporting, the Plateau State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the incident. Efforts to reach the Command’s spokesperson, Alabo Alfred, were unsuccessful, as his phone was switched off.

Security personnel at the police command headquarters in Jos confirmed the explosion and said an investigation had been launched. “The area has been cordoned off as investigators begin to assess the situation,” said a security source. “We are working to determine the cause of the explosion and urge the public to remain calm as we ensure their safety.”

The explosion has heightened security concerns in Jos, a city that has experienced periodic violence and unrest in recent years. Authorities have assured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to address the situation.
