In response to the recent flooding in Maiduguri, the Borno State Police Command has issued a set of safety guidelines aimed at managing the aftermath and ensuring public safety.
The measures were announced on Wednesday in a press release by Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Yusufu.
The Commissioner highlighted the importance of vigilance and cooperation in addressing potential risks that have emerged in the wake of the floods.
“The Command is working closely with relevant agencies to maintain law and order, ensure public safety, prevent criminal activities, and support rescue operations for those affected by the flood,” the statement read.
As part of the guidelines, residents are advised to:
• Stay alert and report any suspicious activities or individuals to the authorities.
• Avoid flooded areas to reduce the risk of waterborne diseases and accidents.
• Be cautious of potential looting or theft in flood-affected areas.
The public is also urged to cooperate with emergency responders and humanitarian workers while refraining from sharing unverified information to avoid the spread of misinformation.
In the event of an emergency, residents can contact the police on the following helplines: 0806 807 5581 and 0802 347 3293.
Authorities emphasized the need for collective effort, urging the public to remain calm and vigilant during this post-flood period to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents.
