The Arewa Youth Forum (AYF) has strongly endorsed the appointment of Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi as the new Director General of the Department of State Security Service (DSS), praising his potential to significantly enhance Nigeria’s national security and stability. The endorsement came during a press conference held in Kaduna, where AYF President Ahmed Mohammed Zagi outlined the positive implications of Ajayi’s new role.
Zagi, representing AYF—the premier umbrella organization for youth groups across the nineteen Northern States, some Southern States, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and the Diaspora—commended President Ahmed Bola Tinubu for the strategic choice of Ajayi. He described the appointment as a “golden decision” aimed at addressing and mitigating the persistent security challenges faced by Nigeria, particularly in the North-Western region.
Highlighting Ajayi’s extensive background, Zagi detailed the new DG’s impressive career trajectory, beginning as a cadet officer in 1990. Ajayi has undergone rigorous training in various areas including Management, Security Leadership, Critical Thinking, and Human Resources both domestically and internationally. His diverse skill set, characterized by diligence, resilience, and a proactive approach, positions him as a well-qualified leader for the DSS.
The DSS, under Ajayi’s leadership, is expected to focus on its core responsibilities, which encompass counter-intelligence, economic intelligence, internal security, counter-terrorism, and surveillance, alongside investigating significant offences against the state. What is d core role of the DSS? We have seen many at times when a DSS officer will be invited to make arrest of a house maid because the maid has stolen food items from the employer all because the employer know one DSS officer.
