Iran Warns of ‘Decisive’ Response to Any Israeli Strike, Urges UN Intervention

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has issued a stern warning to Israel, stating that Tehran is prepared to deliver a “decisive and regretful” response if Israel conducts a retaliatory strike against Iran.

This comes after Iran reportedly fired approximately 200 missiles at Israel on October 1, in response to the killings of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, and an Iranian general.

In a phone call with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Araghchi emphasized Iran’s commitment to maintaining regional peace but cautioned against any “adventures” by Israel. He urged the United Nations to step in, calling for efforts to halt “the crimes and aggressions of the Israeli regime” and to ensure humanitarian aid reaches Lebanon and Gaza.

Araghchi also discussed the ongoing conflict with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot, emphasizing the importance of ending Israeli attacks on Lebanon and removing barriers hindering the delivery of aid to displaced individuals.

The diplomatic engagement has seen Araghchi visiting various regional countries, including Lebanon, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Iraq, and Oman, aiming to de-escalate tensions. On Wednesday, he arrived in Jordan, where he met with Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and Jordan’s King Abdullah II, discussing the recent developments and expressing concern over what he described as Israeli “atrocities” in Gaza and Lebanon.

The tensions unfold amid a prolonged conflict between Israel and Hamas, which has now extended to Lebanon, underscoring the volatile situation in the region.
