The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two individuals for their alleged involvement in the lynching of a man accused of stealing cables in the Alausa area of the state.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed the arrests on Monday and revealed that the suspects, alongside others still at large, were responsible for the death of a man identified only as Monday.
According to Hundeyin, the Alausa Police Division received a tip-off on Sunday around 4:00 p.m. from a concerned citizen regarding the incident.
“The informant reported that at about 3:00 a.m. on the same day, he received a call from one of his brothers that a man named Monday had been lynched by a group of boys after being accused of cable theft,” Hundeyin said, as quoted by NAN.
The police stated that after beating the victim, the suspects used copper wire to strangle him to death.
A “thorough probe” is currently underway, and the victim’s body has been taken to the Mainland General Hospital in Yaba for an autopsy.
