The Federal Operations Unit (FOU) of the Nigeria Customs Service, led by Comptroller Kola Oladeji, has successfully intercepted a large consignment of cannabis sativa weighing 6,488kg, valued at ₦519,040,000.

This was made known in a press briefing on September 23, 2024.

The Comptroller handed over 4 suspects, along with the seized drugs, to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

The handover was received by Deputy Commander of Narcotics (DCN) Adekunle Kassim Makinde, who represented the NDLEA at the event. Comptroller Oladeji emphasized that the interception was based on credible intelligence and timely action by the customs officers. He explained that the operation spanned various locations within and outside Lagos State, highlighting the importance of collaboration in tackling illicit drug activities.

DCN Makinde expressed gratitude to the Customs Area Controller (CAC) for the cooperation between both agencies. He reaffirmed the NDLEA’s commitment to ensuring that the seized drugs do not make their way into Nigerian communities and thanked the Customs team for their diligence.

The event concluded with the formal handover of the seized cannabis and the suspects to the NDLEA for further investigation and prosecution.

This successful operation marked a significant victory in the ongoing fight against drug trafficking in Nigeria.
