On Monday, Israel conducted a series of devastating airstrikes in southern Lebanon, killing at least 100 people as the Israeli military urged residents to evacuate areas it claimed were used by the Hezbollah militant group for storing weapons.
The Lebanese Health Ministry reported over 400 people injured in the attacks, marking one of the deadliest days in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hezbollah in nearly a year.
The airstrikes followed a barrage of more than 100 rockets fired by Hezbollah into northern Israel, with some landing near the city of Haifa. This rocket attack was in retaliation for an Israeli airstrike on a Beirut suburb on Friday, which killed a top Hezbollah military commander, several militants, and civilians, including women and children.
Residents of villages in southern Lebanon posted images of the destruction on social media, showing towns under heavy bombardment. The Israeli military confirmed it was targeting Hezbollah-related sites in response to the group’s rocket attacks.
Meanwhile, the Gaza Strip also witnessed violence, with Israeli airstrikes killing eight Palestinians, including five children, according to Palestinian medical officials.
This latest surge in violence comes after a series of explosions last week that targeted thousands of communications devices used primarily by Hezbollah members, resulting in the deaths of 39 people and injuries to nearly 3,000 others. Lebanese officials blamed Israel for the attacks, although Israel neither confirmed nor denied involvement.
As the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah intensifies, tensions in the region continue to escalate, raising fears of further casualties and destruction.
