We Won’t Compromise National Security – Interior Minister

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to enhancing services for Nigerians and investors while ensuring national security remains uncompromised.

The Minister stated this during a visit from the Governing Council of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), led by its President, Davidson Alaribe.

Tunji-Ojo highlighted the Ministry’s ongoing innovations, particularly in streamlining services like passport acquisition. He revealed that plans were underway to introduce a contactless passport renewal solution, allowing Nigerians to renew their passports without needing to visit passport offices. “There is still room for improvement in passport acquisition,” the Minister said, “but the contactless solution will make the process even more efficient.”

He also expressed the Ministry’s readiness to collaborate with ICAN to optimize its workforce and enhance service delivery across its agencies.

In response, ICAN President, Chief Davidson Alaribe, praised the Minister for the significant improvements in the Nigerian Passport Offices, noting that the modernization efforts have made the process of obtaining and renewing passports easier and more efficient.

Alaribe further commended Tunji-Ojo’s leadership in reforming the Nigeria Immigration Service, the Civil Defence Corps, and public sector safety measures, which have enhanced border control, national security, and service efficiency. “The Minister’s leadership in digitization, especially in e-passport services and visa reforms, has streamlined business operations and strengthened Nigeria’s international relationships,” he added.
