NITDA Issues Warning on Security Vulnerability in Google Chrome Browser

By Nafisat Abdulrahman

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has issued a warning to the public about a critical security vulnerability discovered in the Google Chrome browser.

This alert follows an advisory from the Nigerian Computer Emergency Response Team (ngCERT) that identified a significant flaw that could expose users to potential cyber threats.

According to NITDA, the vulnerability affects the Chrome browser and poses a high risk to users’ data security. Hackers could exploit this weakness to gain unauthorized access to sensitive information, making it crucial for users to act promptly.

To mitigate these risks, NITDA urges all Chrome users to immediately update their browsers to the latest version. Updating the browser will help protect users from any potential attacks that could exploit the vulnerability.

The agency emphasized the importance of maintaining up-to-date software to safeguard against cyber threats. “Keeping your software updated is one of the simplest and most effective steps you can take to protect your data,” NITDA noted in its statement.

The vulnerability, referred to as CVE-2024-12345, has been categorized as high severity. Google has already released a security patch to address the issue, and users are advised to install the update as soon as possible to prevent any potential exploitation. In addition to updating their browsers, NITDA recommends users practice safe browsing habits and be vigilant against phishing attempts and malicious websites that may attempt to take advantage of such vulnerabilities.

For more information on how to update Google Chrome and stay protected, users can visit the official Chrome support page or contact NITDA directly for further guidance.
