Kano Police Arrest Man for Impersonation, Extortion

The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 42-year-old man, Hamisu Ibrahim, for allegedly impersonating a police officer and extorting money from unsuspecting individuals.

In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the suspect was apprehended on November 18, 2024, following credible intelligence. Ibrahim, a resident of Jangaru Village in Ungogo Local Government Area, was accused of posing as a court duty officer and exploiting citizens by offering to secure bail for their detained relatives.

The arrest was ordered by the Commissioner of Police in Kano State, CP Salman Dogo Garba, after the suspect’s activities raised suspicions. Preliminary investigations revealed that at least two victims had fallen for Ibrahim’s scheme, providing testimonies that he had extorted money under false pretenses.

“This arrest is a testament to the commitment of the Police Command to sanitising the system, protecting the public, and rooting out individuals who determine to undermine the good work of the Police in Kano State,” SP Kiyawa said.

The Commissioner of Police also expressed appreciation for the support and cooperation of Kano residents in assisting the police to identify and apprehend suspects. He encouraged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.

The Kano Police Command reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining law and order while protecting the public from fraudulent activities that tarnish the reputation of the Force. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
