Troops Repel Bandits’ Attack on Sokoto Community

Troops of Operation Fasan Ranma successfully repelled a bandits’ attack on Gatawa, a community in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, in a fierce confrontation on Tuesday morning.

The incident was confirmed by Hon. Aminu Boza, the member representing Sabon Birni 1 in the Sokoto State House of Assembly. Speaking with our correspondent on Tuesday, Boza revealed that the attack took place in the early hours, but the troops were able to resist the assailants.

“Yes, the troops repelled their attack on Gatawa, but the network isn’t stable for me to get full details at the moment,” Boza said. He added that preliminary information suggests that the bandits, suspected to belong to the notorious Bello Turji camp, suffered heavy casualties during the encounter.

“Our troops dealt with them very massively today,” Boza stated, promising to provide more details once they were available.

A senior official from the Nigerian Army’s 8 Division in Sokoto, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed the operation. He noted that such missions had become routine for the troops stationed in the region as they continued to counter the activities of bandits and criminal groups.

“These kinds of operations are not new to the troops of the Division,” the official said, highlighting the ongoing efforts to restore peace in the area.

It is worth recalling that about three months ago, bandits kidnapped and later killed the District Head of Gatawa, Isa Muhammad Bawa, after holding him in captivity for two weeks.
