72-Year-Old, Two Others Arraigned in Ibadan Over Alleged Land Fraud

A 72-year-old man, Ayoade Johnson, alongside Fesojaye Ogundana, 67, and Kehinde Adebiyi, 32, was on Monday arraigned before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan over alleged land fraud involving N800,000.

The trio, whose residential addresses were not disclosed, is facing a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, obtaining money under false pretence, and stealing. They pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Elisha Tellang, informed the court that the alleged offences were committed in January 2025 at Ido Road, Ibadan.

Tellang alleged that the defendants collected the sum of N800,000 from two individuals, Ademola Adewumi and Toyin Oyewumi, under the pretext of facilitating the purchase of a plot of land.

“The defendants received the money with a promise to secure land for the complainants but went ahead to sell the said land to another person,” Tellang told the court.

He said the actions of the defendants contravened Sections 516, 419, and 390(9) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

Presiding over the matter, Magistrate M. A. Atanda granted the accused persons bail in the sum of N200,000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.

She subsequently adjourned the case to April 29, 2025, for hearing.
